Apparantly the structure had suffered serious damage in the past that left a rubble-filled hole in the west wall.
Through it they could gain entry to the courtyard, and into the main building.
There, they figured, the scions would be held.
Oblivious to the force within the citadel, the adventurers sneaked past the front gate and to the west wall.
Tereus silently and slowly crossed the rubble and hid behind the first cover they found.
More slowly and (hopefully) more silently the others crossed when Tereus spotted a large, scaled, sleeping form right beyond the wall's breach.
Each crossed over succesfully. Except Anon. He sidestepped onto some loose stones and caused enough noise to not only alert guards on top of the walls, but to also awaken the sleeping beast.
The Wyvern reared and roared, alerting the forces within the main building as well.
Its defiance against the intruders was short-lived. As it straightened, the barbarian charged and both the rogue and ninja sneak-attacked.
Severely wounded it thought not to retaliate, but took to the air immediately. Its roars in flight sending the citadel in full alert.
Orcs scrambled all atop the walls, trying to get a clear view of what just happened. And while the four again took cover and readied; an ogre, several orcs and a halberd-wielding orc champion stepped out into the courtyard.
The orc champion ordered a sweep of the yard and investigated the puddle of blood.
A furious battle followed; the raging barbarian power-attacked anyone coming close as the fighter ended orc assaults with his fists.
All the while the ninja and the rogue circled the crowd, gaing sneak attacks and spotting new targets.
As the fight continued orcs joined the battle from above, shooting anything that moves and a few more come out the main building.
The rescuers wasted no more time than necessary and when the opportunity came to retreat inside, they made a last stand in the throne room.
Bottlenecking the orcs they tipped the balance in their favor and soon stood without any new atackers. Apparantly the orcs were without proper leadership, the champion was one of the first to drop, and thought the intruders too strong a force to repel easily.
Using this time to recover and scout, the four quickly assaulted the orcs left on the walls.
Each gained confidence in their fighting skills as orc after orc dropped, and then there were none to challenge them.
They had infiltrated, ambushed, attacked, and taken the aboveground citadel and walls in mere minutes.
And there was no sign of the missing scions of Melvaun..
"Kra ! Kra ! Taken Below ! Kara taken !"
