He uses rusty manacles hanging from ropes beneath the Old Fishery to feed his pet alligator Gobblegut.
Typically, he has Giggles hang a doomed orphan by the ankles and then slowly lower the child down into Gobblegut's snapping jaws, stringing out the torment for his own twisted entertainment by making the child answer impossibly complex questions and having Giggles drop him a few inches each time it fails to answer.
Gaedren Lamm is a jaundiced and bent corpse of a man, his eyes yellowed and skin spckled from age.
His left leg has a pronounced limp as he shuffles about.
His old skin can no longer stand the chafe of armor more significant than padded.
He is well-schooled in the credo "secrets can kill," and the miserable cur hasn't survived to become the nasty old man he is now by letting people get the drop on him.
Yet he's also a proud and btter man, used to fightning tooth and nail to keep what's his.
Of course, Gaedren recognizes each of his four would-be-killers, as they enter his hidden den.
Gaedren's right-hand man and his longest-lived accomplice is Yargin Balko, a bitter human alchemist who's served variously as his accountant, advisor, assassin, and fence for nearly a decade.
Yargin is a perpetually sour-faced man with short blond hair and a fondness for expensive clothing.
His true obsession is acid, he carries several vials with him wherever he goes. He has even concocted a weak acid that plays a key part in the tendering of fish into slurry (and is used to punish wayward orphans).
Yargin doens't recognize the intruders and after shooting crossbow is quickly subdued and tied up.
Hookshanks Gruller, a taskmaster who loves his job because he gets to bully human children who are even smaller than him.
He is quick te berate the orphans and threatens to "feed them to the dog".
Hookshanks often dresses the part of an orphan himself and moves easily beside the Paladin, trying to shank him.
After a short back-and-forth between him, Rendain and Talion, he too is subdued and put in a corner.
Giggles, a half-orc taskmaster who titters as he beats children who aren't working fast enough. He lost an eye to a devilfish years ago, and his face still bears several angry puckershaped scars from the creature's suckers.
He wears his scars and eyepatch with pride.
In combat he lives up to his name, chortling and snickering at anything remotely funny.
Giggles bolts for the door after a few rounds of combat.
When the four return upstairs, after killing Gaedren and finding Zellara's severed head, both Hookshanks and Yargin have fled as well.
Emerging from the Old Fishery, Rendain (Paladin), Rynnil (Scout), Yabusame (Samurai) and Talion (Druid), fall flat as a Sable Company flies overhead at neckbreaking speed.
The city is on fire !
A frantic clang of alarm bells sing out in harmony with a multifarious cacophony of screams, the clash of steel on steel, shrieks of terror, and even the periodic detonation of arcane power.
Amid the chaos the voice of a Korvosan herald cuts through the din; "The king is dead! Long live the Queen!" only to be shouted down by ragged cries of "Hang the queen!".
