Perhaps the most succesful scouting parties are those composed entirely of Stone Giants: their skill at hiding among rocky terrain allows them to move unseen.
Lord Mokmurian hopes to gather much intelligence about the region before he marches his armies down from the Storval Plateau and into Varisia, and he has expressly gorbidden the parties from interacting in any major way with the natives in hopes of minimizing chances that the people of Varisia catch wind of what's in store for them.
Yet one scouting party is poised to break that silence..
Sandpoint has a special place in the Runelord's (and thus Mokmurian's) plans, for thousands of years ago, one of His greatest spies was stationed there at astructure known as Hellstorm Flume; a double agent in Runelord Alaznist's army.
Mokmurian ordered the leader of one of the raiding parties, a Giant named Teraktinus, to gather a stone from the heart of this ruin; Old Light in Sandpoint.
Of course, Teraktinus doens't simply rob Sandpoint of one simple stone block; he's already whipped his Giants into a frnzy of greed with promises of wealth awaiting plunder.
When Mokmurian learns, via Sending, that Teraktinus has neared Sandpoint, he sends his Red Dragon ally Longtooth out to aid him.
Although Teraktinus warned the young Giants to wait for Longtooth's initial flight over Sandpoint to launch the attack, they were too excited about the raid, and once the youngest saw a human moving around on the wall, he tossed a rock..
When Giants to the north start throwing boulders, a pair of Stone Giants using trees in the swamp near Mill Pond as cover emerge onto the road at Tanner's Brige.
Assuming they just couldn't see Longtooth's initial flight over Sandpoint due to their cover, they drive their trained Dire Bears before them, and set to gathering prisoners.
Once Longtooth arrives in town, he gleefully swoops and flaps over Sandpoint. This is his first real attack on a human settlement, and he spends as much time roaring and periodically landing on roofs and menace as he does actually breathing fire or gulping up fleeing citizens.
Two Giants late to the raid approach from the southern Lost Coast Road.
Seeing the raid in full swing, they barrel across the bridge but are immediately distracted; by the delicious smell of beer wafting out of Two Knight Brewery..
