The Heroes of Shadowdale feast with their Elven friends and dine with the Coronal and his consorts.
After the pleasantries Lady Alsutriel, of the Seven Sisters, approaches them and asks them of their exploits, heroics and recent undertakings.
Jack, the Rogue/Invisible Blade/Avenger
Tereus, the Ninja/Fortune's Friend
Anon, the Fighter/Warshaper/Kensai
and the recently joined Touvren, the Cleric/Initiate of Mystra/Demonwrecker who recplaced Rekk, the Barbarian, as he was called by his God to act as His Champion in glorious battle.
After introductions, the Lady relates to them the events that trouble the Elves.
The Drow raidings, skirmishes and the outright assassinations of entire adventuring parties.
The Heroes readily accept to act as bait for one of those Drow task force, and after re-equipping they set out for a cabin in the the woods.
Not long after dusk, the group is alerted to the noise of four large Ogre zombies trotting through the forest towards them.
They get ready and try to spot Drow, who might use these as a distraction.
While the Cleric turns the Zombies, both Jack and Tereus get into flanking positions, and Anon charges headlong into battle.
Not expecting a sudden volatile attack, they are almost flat-footed when Drow barbarians charge at them with greataxes.
Behind the Ogres a Drow Priestess casts spells to enhance her allies, but within a few rounds Priestess is unconscious and all others were killed.
The Heroes reason about their next course of action and decide that it's best to find out where they have come from.
They follow the trail, left behind by the large Undead retinue and quickly come upon a hillside cave entrance.
Outside, a huge beheaded constrictor snake is draped around a tre, but the adventures ignore its presence.
Jack stealthily and invisible enters the cavern and with the generous castings of Daylight by Tereus' Moonblade oversees a large grotto.
As the others fall in behind a Drow astride a large reptile charges down from the ceiling, skewering Touvren.
As combat is started another Drow enters the fray.
Tereus sneaks around and the others battle the Drow.
The battle turns grim as the Ninja discovers a duo of Vrock, avian-like demons, that guard a seemingly inoperable Gate.
With combined tactics and some lucky strikes the Heroes take out their attackers and kill the summoned Demons.
Unsure about the Portal and its destination they turn to the captured Drow Priestess and try to interogate her, and explain its workings.
"Fools, Lithara called out, you have invoked the Wrath of Lolth. She watches over Her Priests and sees you now. Run, or be destroyed!"
Undaunted the four repeated their questions, and then saw a change in the priestess appearance.
Her eyes rolled back, showing only white. Then they melted, oozing white goo over her face, after which her entire body started to convulse, and bubble..
Slowly tentacles grew out of her sides, and the heroes now took her warning to heart.
Anon threw a bent piece of iron through the inactive Gate, a hint revealed in Lithara's notes.
The portal opened, showing a bright light but no destination.
Silently praying to his God, the Changeling stepped through..
