The owner of the Sleepy Sphinx was busy cleaning her bar.
The past days had been very busy; Trolls rampaged through the streets, a steady customer was unmasked as a Zhentarim spy, and mercenaries had cleared the trade route to Hillsfar.
Most of her rooms were empty, but during the day her bar was crowded.

Getting ready for bed, she set plates and cups for her 4 guests' breakfast beforehand when a tremor hit.
The entire inn shook, dropping bottles from the shelves and toppling chairs and stools.
Gripping the bar to stay upright Brenda thought it was over as soon as it began. That, however, was only the beginning.
A fullblown quake hit, shaking the building violently and dropping it down through a 80' deep sinkhole. Overhead it collapsed upon itself sealing the building below in the dark.

Walcren shouted out. He woke to the sound of breaking wood and then gut stuck under some heavy beams.
In the darkness and clouds of settling dust Liandra, Vachlan and Cedras slowly got up on their feet. Each heard Walcren's cries for help, and Vachlan, a Cleric of Lathander, quickly located the trapped Hunter.
Cedras, a Farmer, and Liandra, a Rogue, walked the second floor hallway and found that it was now the first floor.
The entire ground floor was crushed beneath the weight of the rest of the inn and a small rockslide.
None would've survived on that floor..

Walking out of the inn both tried to look for anything familiar, but it was utterly dark and no light came through the ceiling.
Vachlan and the newly-rescued Walcren joined them.
Deciding they cannot wait for a rescue, they lighted crude torches and found some mundane gear scattered through the buildings remains.

With the meager light they saw that the inn now stood in a great cavern with a rockslide on top of it. Scouting this central cave revealed three distinct exits, all leading directly away from it and in totally different directions.

Walcren took the lead and determined that splitting the group will be the quickest way of finding an exit.
The least experienced, Cedras, stayed behind in case rescuers camefrom above, and the others each took a passage into the dark.
Cedras wished them luck, not knowing he would never see them again..
And no one came to rescue him..

In the darkness, connected through twisting passageways a temporal gateway opened.
Huzuraal, a Shadow Barghest, stepped through. Sniffing the sweet Material air he bade his warband to follow. Finally they had escaped the cursed Shadow Glen. After being locked away in the Plane of Shadow for so long the Barghest and his Warsouls had taken over some of its traits.
Trailing shadow, and darkening the caverns around them they hunted down any who would provide sustenance to the ravening creatures..
